Domains

A little know fact, if you're new to this, is that you do not have to purchase your domain name from your hosting provider. If you get a free domain name when you sign up, great! If not, shop around.

Some hosting providers charge $10 or $20 for a domain name while you can get them for $6 or $7.

Although I don't like them for hosting, 1and1.com offers domain names for $6.99 and the transfer process to Hostgator is very simple.

When you sign up with Hostgator, they will give you your 2 nameservers, such as:

ns442.hostgator.com
ns443.hostgator.com

Once you register your new domain name with 1and1, you simply go into the 1and1 control panel and change the 1and1 nameservers to the ones you were given by Hostgator.
